Privacy Policy
Gowme Travel AS ("we", "us") is a tourism information service registered in Norway. We provide digital tools that generate personalized trip information, including route suggestions, points of interest, cost estimates, KML files, and Google My Maps links. We do not sell, organize, book, or facilitate travel services of any kind. Contact: [email protected].
Personal data we process
- Account data: email, display name (if provided).
- Usage/technical data: IP, user-agent, timestamps, basic app events.
- Trip data: POIs, routes, generated KML, resulting My Maps URLs.
- Support data: messages you send us.
Purposes & lawful bases (GDPR Art. 6)
- Contract — deliver your map link, send confirmations/magic-link.
- Legitimate interests — security, fraud prevention, service improvement.
- Consent — optional analytics or product updates (opt-in only).
Sharing
We use infrastructure/email/analytics providers under appropriate data protection terms. We do not sell personal data.
International transfers
Where data is transferred outside the EEA/UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).
Retention
- Account data: while your account is active or necessary for the purposes.
- Logs/usage: typically 30–180 days, then deletion or aggregation.
- Trip artifacts: as needed to provide the service; you may request deletion.
First-party product analytics
We collect anonymised usage data (page views, button clicks, scroll depth, video engagement, and similar in-app events) using our own internal system. This data is stored solely on our own servers, is never shared with or sold to third parties, and is used exclusively to understand how the product is used and to improve it.
The lawful basis for this processing is our Legitimate Interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) — specifically, the interest in improving the quality and usability of the Service. Where you have consented to analytics cookies, we may additionally associate a full IP address with an event record; otherwise only your country (derived from network routing) is stored. Each visitor is assigned a pseudonymous identifier (gowme_vid) stored in your browser (cookie and local storage) to link events and identify you when you return.
You may object to this processing at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. Event records are retained for up to 90 days, after which they are deleted or aggregated.
Third-party processors
We may use the following categories of service providers to help operate the Service:
- Infrastructure: hosting, CDN, database services
- Email delivery: transactional email providers
- Analytics (opt-in): Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity (if you consent to analytics cookies)
- Marketing (opt-in): Meta/Facebook Pixel (if you consent to marketing cookies)
All processors are bound by appropriate data protection agreements (DPAs) and process data only on our instructions.
Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews.
Your rights
Under GDPR (and similar laws), you have the right to:
- Access — obtain a copy of your personal data
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion ("right to be forgotten")
- Restriction — limit how we use your data
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent — at any time (for consent-based processing)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days (or as required by applicable law).
Right to lodge a complaint
If you believe we have not handled your personal data properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (supervisory authority). For EEA residents, you can find your authority at EDPB Member List.
Automated decision-making
We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you (GDPR Art. 22).
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or a higher age where required by law).
